FAMILY LAW MEDIATION
Skagit County Court-Approved Mediator
As a mediator, I work with people who are represented by attorneys, or people without attorneys (pro se), or in situations where only one party has an attorney. I have experience with in-person mediations, and also facilitating Zoom-based mediations (which in many cases can be more effective than in person).
Mediation sessions can be tailored to your needs. We can meet together in one room or use a shuttle mediation format, where each party is in a separate room (or breakout room in Zoom). As both an attorney representing individuals in mediations, and as a mediator, I have seen over many years how mediation is very effective in helping people sit down and solve difficult problems together. Court-based negotiation is often adversarial and centers on threats of what the other side will do if you don’t agree. In less formal negotiation, emails or letters between attorneys can take days or weeks as each term is considered, whereas in mediation we have all the decision-makers present, along with the information needed to feel confident about a decision.
I charge $200 per hour for mediation services. I usually keep sessions to about two hours, so everyone can stay sharp and engaged. It’s common to have multiple mediation sessions to allow for parties to do “homework” assignments as we gather information and work through all the issues. If you are interested in mediation, please send me an email and we can find a plan that will work for your family or client: attorney@christaylorlaw.com.
